Paracord or 550 paracord also called parachute cord is a lightweight nylon cord that was originally used in parachute suspension lines in the USA during World War II. It is now used as a general purpose utility cord by the military and civilians. The braided sheath is composed of a large number of threads for its size which gives it a relatively smooth appearance. The 7 inner strands of the core can be removed and also used when the need for a thinner cord is felt. US paracord for the military is specific to the MIL-C-5040H standard. The US military specifications define 6 types of paracord: I, IA, II, IIA, III, IV. Type III is the most commonly used, it has a breaking strength of approximately 550 pounds hence its name paracord 550. Outside of its original field of use, paracord can be used for making all kinds of braiding : Bracelets, survival bracelets, key rings, knife handles, wrist straps, shoe laces, belts, necklaces, animal harnesses, etc. It is an aesthetic, resistant, very flexible cord, pleasant to braid, tie and untie. You will find on the internet many sites claiming to sell paracord from the USA while the paracord they offer is in fact only a pale copy, most often made in China. Be careful! Quality at a price! The Paracord that we offer you is a top quality product, manufactured in the United States by a supplier to the American army and meeting the quality standards mentioned above and in force for this type of product in the USA.
